The tools, tutorials and research forms are available at and are free for individual use. You can proceed at your own pace and study the tutorials in whatever order you choose. If you are a beginner, we do recommend that you complete the "Getting Started" Package first. It will provide you with all the basic information you need to get off to a good start.

Genealogy Groups are invited to use the free materials for your educational programs. Please use the materials as developed and give credit to this website. If you have suggestions for topics not found here, please let us know.

Genealogy Tutorial offers the following tutorials and research tools for free. There are 15 free tutorials, 21 free genealogy forms and a package of 6 free research helps that will help you get started in finding your family history.

The National Genealogical Society (NGS) offers an array of educational courses for everyone from beginners just starting out to more advanced learners who want to hone their skills. Choose from the basic Family History Skills online course to the comprehensive NGS American Genealogy: Home Study Course on CD. Be sure to check out the online courses that focus on specific topics such as census records, deeds, or learning to transcribe, extract, and abstract records.
